EP 391: Paris History Avec a Hemingway (Mona Lisa Part 2)

Krystal Kenney

She doesn’t need an introduction and her face is known in every corner of the globe, but do we really know the story of the Mona Lisa and why she is so famous?

In part one of our series on the story of the Mona Lisa we shared her life on the run and the theft that made her famous. 400 years after the master Leonardo da Vinci painted her she appeared on the front page of every newspaper in the world.  Taken off the wall of the Salon Carré of the Musée du Louvre on August 19, 1911, it took two days for anyone to notice she was gone.

In this week’s part two, we talk about where she was for 28 months and how she finally recovered and became the icon she is today.
